Emerge artist Edward Cushenberry will be participating in a group exhibition called Sorry Danny opening October 18 at FWD Studio in Los Angeles. The title of the show is named after a collective of photography majors studying at Art Center College of Design in 2011. The group show will feature Cushenberry along with his contemporaries Hiroshi Clark, Gizelle Hernandez, Mike Lopez, Ryan Young, Josh Schaedel, Grant Gutierrez and designer James Thornton. The exhibition will promote the release of their project entitled Issue 4: New Works.
The group name is dedicated to Danny Lyon, a documentary photographer who is a big influence on every member in the collective. The first issue that Sorry Danny put out was by founding members Hiroshi Clark, Mike Lopez and Josh Schadel and was made entirely of cell phone pictures. The issue served as an apology to Danny Lyon’s quote at the end of “Memories of myself” where the photographer says that black and white film is photography. Since Issue 1, Sorry Danny has added four new members, began showcasing personal projects and has added a graphic designer to the mix. Their fourth book entitled New Works is a 200 + page book of new photos and projects by each member and is an introduction to the two newest members Grant Gutierrez and graphic designer James Thornton. Edward Cushenberry gives Installation Magazine a preview of the exhibition and a look inside Issue 4: New Works.
