Antonio Aricò draws inspiration from tradition.  Italy’s cultivation of olives dates back to the Middle Ages and olive oil tasting is an integral ingredient in the cultural palette.  Aricó explains that the name for his collection Taste of Wood is “a funny eulogy to olive oil, to olive wood, to wooden furniture and has for background the artisanal techniques used to finish and preserve it.”  During his process essential ideas give rise to form and function, the collection Taste of Wood incorporates pieces that could serve as décor around your house or functional as a conversation piece during a dinner party.  Next time you find yourself sitting under an olive tree you can enjoy the taste of the oil and use it to give your furniture a special glow.  Explore Aricó’s sketches and discover how a simple tradition informed a new design informed by the gesture of extending the colloquial olive branch.
