LOS ANGELES (August, 2014) — ACE Hotel Downtown LA is set to host THE SERIES, presented by NICOLE DISSON, who has curated an impressive group of LA’s finest in the fields of contemporary dance, music, performance, poetry and visual art to perform original pieces on the hotel’s rooftop. This special performance driven event will by directed by Disson, who launched THE SERIES as a performance model in 2010 and has since been recognized for her ability to cultivate talent, while fusing this energy into unique settings and situations.

The evening will feature Benjamin Millepied’s world acclaimed company, L.A. DANCE PROJECT, in lead up to their residence at the Theatre at Ace Hotel this October 24 – 26th. The company will be performing excerpts from Reflections and Murder Ballades, along with a piece set to a live performance by IO ECHO, Ioanna Gika and Leopold Ross’s band (Iamsound Records) who will be playing an acoustic set during the evening. HARPER SIMON, who’s critically lauded self-titled solo album Rolling stones called “a gorgeous collection of vintage- sounding country-folk tunes,” will be performing selections from his recent international tour that features a string and horn quartet. In addition, poet MANDY KAHN (author of Math, Heaven, Time and co-author of the acclaimed Collage Culture) will be reciting her poetry to a live orchestration by composer DANIEL CORRAL (who’s work has been presented by the Hammer Museum, REDCAT and MOCA).

Theatrical performance installations will be lead by director ZOE AJA MOORE, whose work will be featured at this September’s Live Arts Exchange / LAX contemporary performance festival, which Disson is returning to direct and curate the opening night performance event under THE SERIES umbrella. Moore will be partnering with artist AMY JO DIAZ, who will be creating installation pieces for performers to use throughout the night. Additionally, artists ALIA PENNER and LOLA ROSE THOMPSON will be creating a visual installation in the hotel’s pool for this evening only, where DIVA (of the rock band BlackBlack) will be leading audience members in a guided meditation earlier on in the evening. DJ sets throughout the night by DUBLAB’s executive director Mark “Frosty” McNeill and Ale, and more.
